Our History

Fellowship Baptist Church began in 1955 in Waterways, a small community just south of Fort McMurray. Pastor Art Hoehne and his wife, Ella, began with a simple Bible outreach programs to children which grew to include adults in the area as well.  Art was bi-vocational needing to work to support his family during the church’s infant state. In 1968, church growth required the purchase and clearing of land at the present location on Alberta Drive, in downtown Fort McMurray.   One year later the new church, designed by Bernard Jean, was dedicated with the new name of Fellowship Baptist.

The church has been blessed by many men and women of God “willing to go the distance” for Him in this northern community.  The city has always had a very different demographic from most other Canadian cities.  Being an oil town with many shift and transient workers, pastors and church workers have needed to be creative in their outreach and programs to reach this community with the Gospel.

At present, approximately 500 people attend church services and programs throughout the week.  Baptisms are a fairly regular celebration and new believers are being taught who they are in Christ.  We encourage you to come and check out any of our services. We also covet your prayers for the future to God’s glory.  May God bless all those who have followed Him in obedience in ministry to our community.
